Tropical Storm Colin Close… Florida state of emergency declared

Investobuddies – Florida Governor Rick Scott declared a state of emergency for 34 counties as Tropical Storm Colin approached Florida on the 6th (local time).

According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Tropical Storm Colin, which has landed about 305 kilometers northwest of Tampa in western Florida, is expected to hit the Florida Gulf Coast soon. Colin’s maximum wind speed is 86 km/h.

Due to the influence of Colin, heavy rain of up to 150 cm is expected on the 7th on the Yucatan Peninsula, western Cuba, northern Florida, southeastern Georgia, and along the Carolina coast. The NHC has warned that tornadoes with strong winds could occur, particularly in northern Florida and southern Georgia.

As a result, Tampa International Airport is currently delaying 40 passenger flights and canceling 16 flights. Some schools in Florida canceled afternoon classes on the 6th and sent students home.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Meteorological Prediction Center said 10 to 16 tropical storms are expected to hit the United States this year. Four to eight of these storms are expected to grow into hurricanes.
