Shinzo Abe Suspected Attacker: “I was dissatisfied and tried to kill”

It is reported that Yamagami Tetsuya (41), who shot former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on the 8th, said during a police investigation that “I was dissatisfied with former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and aimed to kill him.”

Yamagami was arrested by the police shortly after the crime on the same day on charges of attempted murder. Yamagami is a former Maritime Self-Defense Force officer living in Nara City, and it is said that he served for about three years until 2005.

According to eyewitnesses, Yamagami approached Abe 34 meters from behind and fired two shots. At the time of the crime, she was wearing a mask, glasses, a shirt, and long pants.

There were media reports that a shotgun was used, but police said it was a pistol, not a shotgun. According to local Japanese media, it is known that a handmade pistol with adhesive tape wound around a cylindrical barrel was used.
