The Google Pixel 6a is Already on Amazon, But It Has Issues

The Google Pixel 6a hasn’t been released yet, but we can already see an unlocked handset ready for sale on Amazon.

We already knew that Pixel 6a pre-orders will start on July 21st (this Thursday), but it’s fun to watch. Amazon already has a store page (opens in a new tab) (discovered by Nine to FiveGoogle (opens in a new tab) ) ready for potential customers to checkout and live. However, I can’t actually hit the buy button yet. You can only sign up for the current update, we’ll let you know when pre-orders start, and you can actually check out with the Pixel 6a.

The $449/£399 Pixel 6a is available on Amazon in the same three colors (Sage, Charcoal, or Chalk) as the Google Store. This page also provides an overview of the key features of the new handset, such as a new design, dual rear cameras with special features like Magic Eraser and Face Unblur, and a Google Tensor chip running Android 12.

However, there is actually an error on the Amazon page that you should watch out for. At the bottom of the page comparing the Pixel 6a, Pixel 6, and Pixel 6 Pro, it says that the Pixel 6a has wireless charging, just like its more expensive counterparts. Sadly that’s not true. As confirmed on Google’s own specs page (which opens in a new tab), the Pixel 6a only offers wired charging via the USB-C port.

I haven’t tried the Pixel 6a myself yet, but considering how much I liked the Pixel 6 and Pixel 5a last year, the new, cheaper Pixel looks very likely to be on the list of cheapest phones. Maybe it’s our list of the best phones that offer such a good value. Check back soon when the phone is released. Then we can give you feedback on this.
